Pluto in Capricorn or the 10th House

In Evolutionary Astrology, natal Pluto represents our Soul’s desires and evolutionary intentions. Evolution occurs by playing out our desires until we exhaust them.

We have a page about Pluto. I also highly recommend Jeffrey Wolf Green’s two Pluto books which are the basis for a lot of my thoughts on Pluto.

Your Evolutionary Intention

Pluto in the Tenth House or Capricorn: This placement involves learning about authority, social responsibility, emotional and social maturity, and self-determination. People with this placement often have a strong drive for success and recognition, sometimes to the point of blind ambition. They may become over-identified with their status and struggle with issues of control and ethical use of power. The evolutionary challenge is to develop inner emotional security that is not dependent on external validation, as indicated by the Cancer/4th House polarity point.

About Pluto, the Nodes, and Soul Evolution

Pluto represents the main evolutionary intention for this lifetime. This intention includes integrating the polarity point (the opposite sign and house on the chart).

The nodes of the Moon are also a huge part of the evolutionary story. The South Node represents our past-life experiences, identity structure, and attachments. It represents our comfort zone, what is familiar to us, including strengths and weaknesses. Depending on aspects to Pluto and the nodal rulers, it can also represent karma. (Register for a free report on your karma as represented through Pluto and the Nodes.)

The North Node represents the identity structure that would most serve our evolutionary intention. This is how the nodes and Pluto fit together.

Pluto’s role in our life is in many ways to push or force us to give up our attachments to past ways of being so we can embrace new ways of being. This is not always a process we go through willingly—hence Pluto’s reputation as a harsh teacher. The best approach is to try to cooperate with the evolutionary changes that Pluto brings.
